www.mhtscot.org Mental Health Tribunal Scotland decides on legal matters under the Mental Health Act and removes the need for hearings to be held in a Sheriff Court. Instead independent tribunal hearings involving 3 member panels.
The tribunal panel is made up of a legal member, who is also the convener, a medical member and a general member; all have relevant qualifications and experience in dealing with people with mental health disorders.
Hearings are held in a venue local to the patient wherever possible, at this they will have the right to be represented and to participate in the proceedings.
