The National Schizophrenia Fellowship (Scotland) provides mutual support for families whose lives have been changed for ever by the emergence of schizophrenia in a relative. Such families experience grief, bewilderment and a sense of isolation only exceeded by that of their loved ones. We offer a lifeline to carers and people with schizophrenia alike, with 19 self- help groups in different parts of Scotland, and the provision of a range of community based services.
The proposed Carers' Support Project, which is the subject of this Business Plan, and of
NSF(S)'s application to the National Lottery Charities' Board for Scotland, would enable
people in Scotland who are carers / relatives of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia to
access information, education and networks of self-help and mutual support.
The Project proposal is based on the following considerations:
Members of the Fellowship know from personal experience how much this project could improve the quality of life for many people throughout Scotland. NSF(S) is proud of its achievements over the past 12 years, and is confident that these would be built on in a lasting way through the Carers' Support Project.
