New Directions in the Treatment of Schizophrenia

NSF(Scotland) is hosting a one day conference at Dundee College's Kingsway Campus on 29 September 1999. Aimed at carers of people with schizophrenia and professionals, this event will provide information about new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of people with schizophrenia, as well as an opportunity for an exchange of views and experiences.

The stresses of caring for someone with mental illness, and the associated stigma, mean that mutual support networks such as those offered by NSF(Scotland) are of key importance. For some carers, this event may provide them with their first opportunity to meet others who have had similar experiences.

A carer adds his perspective to the conference: 'It's not just medical advances which are important in the treatment of this devastating illness - changes in society's attitude and cultural shifts in the provider services can be just as influential.'
