Information Paper Two - Medication

This paper has been withdrawn for rewriting and will be posted here as soon as it is available.

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) has recently issued Guidance on the use of newer (atypical) antipsychotic drugs for the treatment of schizophrenia. NICE guidelines do not apply in Scotland.

However, NICE's equivalent body north of the Border, the Health Technology Board for Scotland (HTBS), will be issuing its comments in relation to the NICE guidance on 25 July 2002. This will include a comment for partients and families. NSF (Scotland) will be making a statement at that time.

In the meantime, you can view the NICE guidelines at www.nice.org.uk.

Our sister organisation NSF (now renamed as Rethink) has a section on information which includes medication. For the information page, click here.
