The event was held in the splendid setting of the European Room of the old City
Chambers in Edinburgh, and it certainly measured up to the surroundings.
In the morning, there was a fascinating account by Pamela Scott of the
problems of the mentally ill in relation to information processing.

Pamela Scott
Pamela's background is both in nursing and psychology. She is
currently a research assistant working within the section of Cognitive
Psychopharmacology at the Institute of Psychiatry, London.
Pamela's
primary areas of interest centre on cognitive impairments in individuals
with a diagnosis of Schizophrenia and the remediation of these deficits either
in the form of pharmacological intervention or cognitive therapy.

After lunch, Lynn Welsh, Legal Officer for the Disability Rights Commission Scotland,
spoke about the working of the Disability Discrimination Act.

Lynn Welsh
Lynn has been a Solicitor for fifteen years. During that time she ran a Mental Health Legal Representation
Project for five years which provided advice and legal representation to people with a mental health problem or
dementia.
She also ran a Law Centre in Renfrewshire for four years, specialising in Disability and Community
Care issues. Lynn is currently a Solicitor for the Disability. Rights Commission and has been in that post since
December, 2000. That position involves giving advice, doing legal policy work and representing disabled people
with test cases in Courts and Tribunals.

Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting was chaired by Susan Kirkwood, Chairman
of the Fellowship.
The Annual Report,
available in PDF format,
contains a summary of the past year's work and finances.
In the course of the meeting, the accounts were presented and agreed, as
were the auditors.
Two Board members, Mrs Mary Fawdry and Mr Duncan Cameron, retired at the AGM and they
were thanked in their absence for their work for the Fellowship.
Mr Donald Rankin and Mrs Diane D'Alessandro, who had been co-opted during
the past year, were duly elected to the Board.
Two members whose term of office had come to an end, Mrs Valerie Eaglesham
and Mrs Sheila Cooper, were also elected.
One new member was elected and welcomed to the Board, namely Mrs Carolyn Little.
