On 22 June 2000, Reporting Scotland interviewed Professor David Porteous, user Colin Richardson and NSF(S) Chief Executive Mary Weir on the story that two genes which contribute to the onset of schizophrenia have been identified by Professor Porteous and his team in Edinburgh.

There is increasing evidence that there is a genetic link to schizophrenia, but the research is based on work with one family with a high level of psychotic illness. For further details, see the article in The Times 29 May 2000.
